ACC UK Ltd, Winners of The Independent Garage of the Year 2015, Servicing, Repair & MOT Specialists based in the heart of Farnborough, Hampshire like
to give you hints and tips on maintaining your Volvo or Toyota to help reduce breakdowns and expensive car repair bills.
The blog this week is based around what to do if you buy a Volvo or Toyota from a dealer and then a fault occurs.
If you buy a Volvo or Toyota (or any car for that matter) that turns out to be faulty, your rights and options largely depend on who you bought it from
and how they described the car. You have less legal protection when buying from a private seller or buying from a car auction than when buying from
a dealer.

Handy Tips:
As soon as you notice a problem contact the dealer – you may find that if you purchased warranty protection or the car is still covered by the manufacturers
warranty that the car will be fixed swiftly
Keep a record of all conversations and try and get things in writing
If possible take your car to an Independent Garage to get it checked – they can often help you liaise with the Car Dealer and with the Warranty company
if you experience difficulties.
You may also find it useful to have an independent assessment done if you find the Car Dealer is not being very accommodating and you need to take further
action.
Please be honest though. We had a recent customer who was in dispute with the garage she bought the car from and then we found out that she had put the
wrong fuel in her car which resulted in the damage to the engine.
If you buy a new or used car from a dealer and then experience problems with the car, you have some statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
The Act states that the car must be “of a satisfactory quality”, “fit for purpose” and “as described”. (For a used car, “satisfactory quality” takes into
account the car’s age and mileage.)
If the car you bought fails on any of these points within six months, you‘re entitled to have it repaired or replaced, or to get a partial or full refund.
