The blog this week is about the cooling system on your Volvo and Toyota and some basic tips that you can perform at home to maintain the health of your system. Helping to ensure
no costly breakdowns or expensive trips to the garage.
The Cooling Systems in your Volvo or Toyota is very important, and, if they are not working correctly, can lead to a breakdown due to overheating! So,
what can YOU do to avoid a potential breakdown? Firstly, you can check the thermostat on your Volvo or Toyota. You do this by starting your car and
touching the upper radiator hose. If the hose does not get warm this could indicate that the thermostat is not opening properly. You should take your
car to your local independent Volvo or Toyota garage for further investigation.
When was the last time that your coolant levels were checked? At your last service? You should check these regularly, because if you are topping up with
regularity this could indicate a problem quickly. Always check your coolant levels when your car engine is cold! NEVER remove the radiator cap when
the engine is hot – you risk burning yourself! Check that the fluid levels reach the top and ensure you replace the cap securely. Periodically check
the hoses on your Volvo or Toyota for signs of cracks. This too should be done when the engine is cold. If they feel brittle when you squeeze them
they really need replacing. Check that the clamps are securely in place and tighten them if required. A Volvo or Toyota that overheats can be incredibly
costly to repair – simple maintenance checks between your regular servicing may take a few minutes but will save you a lot of money and time in the
