We also like to keep you informed of changes to laws relating to driving and car ownership.
The blog this week is about maintaining the health of your Volvo or Toyota, whether it be through an annual MOT or regular servicing. Now that the government has extended MOT’s for a further 6 months there will be cars on the roads that really are not roadworthy. The blog this week will concentrate on the importance of your MOT and of regular servicing. Read on for our tips:
It’s important to note that a MOT is not the same as a service. An MOT is a legal requirement which your Volvo or Toyota has to undergo to be deemed as roadworthy and safe to drive. If your car fails its MOT, then the issue/s need to be rectified and the car needs to have a retest before an MOT certificate is issued. During the current climate the government have issued a 6 month MOT extension. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that your Volvo or Toyota is roadworthy. If you are stopped by the police and your car is deemed un roadworthy it could be seized and you face a £2500 fine. If you have an accident and your car is deemed un roadworthy then you can invalidate your insurance. Therefore we cannot stress enough the importance in ensuring your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before you start your journey. There are plenty of independent garages open and operating under strict social distancing conditions with free collection and drop off services – use them please and be a responsible car owner.
A car service schedule is set out by each car manufacturer rather than the government, therefore it is specific to your vehicle. A car service checks your oil levels, engine coolant, brake fluid, filters, brakes, timing belts etc. The garage will carry out the items according to the service schedule. This schedule helps to maintain the optimum health of your vehicle. Preventative maintenance will always be more cost effective than reactive maintenance. If your Volvo or Toyota only sees a garage once a year for its MOT and Service you really should maintain the schedule if you are using your vehicle still. A well maintained vehicle will always command a better resale value than one that has not been maintained. Call your local independent garage to see how they can safely maintain your Volvo or Toyota during these very trying times. Happy safe motoring folks!
