The Importance of Your MOT

Here at ACC UK Ltd, multi award winning Independent Volvo and Toyota Service, Repair & MOT garage based in Farnborough, Hampshire, we like to bring you handy hints and tips on how to maintain your Volvo or Toyota and how to save money on your annual car running costs. We also like to keep you informed of changes to laws relating to driving and car ownership.
The blog this week is about maintaining the health of your Volvo or Toyota. Now that the government has extended MOT’s for a further 6 months there will be cars on the roads that really are not roadworthy. The blog this week will concentrate on the importance of your MOT. Read on for our tips:
The MOT is an important part of car your ownership journey. An MOT test is there to, in short… save your life! The MOT checks that your vehicle is safe and roadworthy and that your Volvo or Toyota emissions are within the stipulated parameters. MOT tests are carried out annually ensuring your Volvo or Toyota meets a certain safety criteria and to ensure your car is roadworthy. Roadworthy is a word you have probably heard a lot over the last few weeks since the government introduced the rolling 6 month MOT extension due to the current Covid-19 situation. This does not in any way mean that you cannot take your vehicle to an independent garage for an MOT. It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that your car is roadworthy – we have seen so many bald tyres, broken coil springs, broken seat belts and questionable break pads over the last few weeks. YOU will be fined up to £2500 if YOU are stopped whilst driving an un-roadworthy car. You cannot possibly know whether your vehicle is roadworthy in all situations. If you have not been to the garage since your last MOT/annual service or had any advisories on your last MOT we implore you to please take your car in for its MOT. Please don’t not risk your safety or that of other road users or your passengers. Garages that are open are practicing social distancing and collection and delivery services so everyone is protected. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
