The blog this week is about recognising the signs of a potential faulty gearbox on your Volvo or Toyota. If you are aware of the signs of a faulty gearbox, you can prevent the issue from growing worse and possibly save money by getting your car to your local independent garage quickly. Read on to find out more

  1. Lack of Response

Transmission problem is evident when your Volvo or Toyota hesitates or refuses to change into the proper gear. Some people refer to this problem as "slipping" in the transmission. You may also see your vehicle go into Limp Mode where it becomes un-drivable - You need to get the experts at your local independent garage to investigate.

  1. Unusual Sounds

Automatic transmissions that are malfunctioning frequently make humming, buzzing, or whining noises; manual gearboxes make mechanical noises, such clunking. Some of these noises could be caused by the drive shaft, differentials, engine, exhaust system or a wheel bearing. Seek the help of an expert at your local independent garage.

  1. Fluid Leakage

Fluid leakage is noticeable and simple to identify. Take your Volvo or Toyota to your local independent garage as soon as you notice a puddle of bright blood red fluid underneath it.

  1. Grinding, jerking, or shaking

Jerking and shaking are reliable signs of transmission problems. In cars with manual transmissions, gear grinding is a common symptom. Failure of an automatic transmission frequently starts with some sluggishness when changing ratios. This may also be referred to as "slipping" by some. Do not continue to drive your car and ignore any of these issues as they will not go away, and you could be causing more damage which will result in more costly repairs.

  1. Burning Smell

Once the transmission fluid has burned, it is no longer able to control heat, lubricate moving parts, and hydraulically move gears. If you smell something like burning rubber or see smoke please take your car into the garage for investigation ignoring this issue will cause more expensive damage to your Volvo or Toyota.

  1.   Will Not Go in Gear

If you are struggling to get your car into gear, there could be a number of reasons for this – you need to take your car in for inspection at your local independent garage to determine the cause.

  1. Engine Management Light

The Check Engine Light is there to show you an early warning sign of an issue – do not ignore this light. We have written many blogs saying this – get it investigated as soon as possible. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
