The blog this week is about summer maintenance tips. Seems a little weird writing about a summer maintenance tip when it is pouring down with rain outside but we have been assured that very hot weather is on its way. Also with the current climate here in the UK with restrictions on travel abroad and those simply not wanting to get on a plane there will no doubt be a lot more stay-cations and trips to the beach. So with that in mind the blog this week will concentrate on coolant in your Volvo or Toyota. Read below to see our top tips:
Although we always talk about the strain the winter weather can put on our cars, the hot summer months can be equally as challenging to deal with, in regards to our vehicles. It is therefore vital to ensure that you have a breakdown policy in place in order to protect yourself, particularly if you are planning on driving your vehicle to a holiday destination this year.
Quite a lot of us have free Green Flag with our bank accounts - check to see if you are covered as you can avoid an unnecessary breakdown cover expense. When did you last check your Volvo or Toyota’s engine coolant levels? According to the AA around 6 million motorists in the UK are risking a potential car repair bill of over £1,000 by failing to regularly check that their engine coolant is at the recommended level. This is vital if you are to prevent your engine from overheating in the summer months.
ACC UK Ltd recommended that you check your coolant fluid levels at least once a week to make sure it is between the minimum and maximum levels on the tank. We also advise that if you have a journey planned that you carry some coolant, oil and water in the boot – just in case you need it! Its better to be prepared for any eventuality – and a hot bank holiday or summer weekend in the UK will always mean heavy traffic and even jams on the motorway. Checking your coolant levels should be done when your car engine is COLD. If you find that your coolant levels have dropped it is essential that you get this checked out by your local Independent Garage as this could indicate that there is a problem with your vehicle. A well maintained and serviced car should retain its coolant levels between servicing schedules. Sticking your head in the sand and topping it up frequently is just temporarily masking a problem that could become a costly one unnecessarily. Preventative maintenance is always going to be cheaper than reactive repairs! Happy Motoring Folks!
