Here at ACC UK Ltd – Winner of The Motor Trader Independent Garage Of The Year UK 2015, Independent Volvo & Toyota Servicing, Repair & MOT specialists
based in Farnborough, Hampshire we like to give you handy motoring tips to help you keep your Volvo or Toyota in good condition throughout the year.

This week we are focussing on the brakes of your Volvo or Toyota. During the MOT, your brakes will undergo various tests – the condition of them and their
performance under testing will be assessed. Your brakes are of upmost importance as this is what will stop your car in the event of an emergency requiring
you to stop suddenly – brake failure could result in a serious injury or possibly death of you, a passenger or another road user. Therefore it is imperative
that your brakes are checked regularly not just when it is time for the annual MOT or Service. If an advisory is issued with respect to your brakes
please please please adhere to it – sweeping it under the carpet and simply forgetting about it is not good enough.

If your brake pad depth is less than a ¼ of an inch it is time to take action. If you hear screeching sounds when applying your brakes you need to take
it to your local independent Volvo or Toyota Garage to get them changed. If your brakes do not feel sensitive when pressure is applied on the brake
pedal, take your car to your local independent Volvo or Toyota garage.

With regards to checking the brake discs, these should be shiny – any faint lines you see are not an issue but deep grooves or patches mean that you need
to get your discs replaced – if you let your brake pads wear all the way down then this will inevitably damage the discs making it more costly for
you.

You should always get your discs and pads replaced in pairs not individually.
