The blog this week is about the importance of maintaining a good maintenance regime regarding the fuel system on your Volvo or Toyota. Read on to find out more:
So why are we talking about the fuel system on your Volvo or Toyota? Well we have seen several vehicles over the last few weeks that have missed their annual servicing schedule due to the pandemic, with owners feeling their cars are not running right and experiencing stalling issues etc. Your car engine runs on a delicate balance of fuel and air. When dirt, sand and other general impurities clog your fuel filter and starve your fuel injectors problems will arise. Why? Well starved or clogged fuel injectors can impede your car's engine performance and therefore reduce your fuel efficiency. Early warning signs that your car has a clogged fuel injector or fuel filter can include:
- Stalling Whilst Driving
- Misfiring or hesitation during acceleration
- Difficulty starting your Volvo or Toyota
The fuel filter serves to filter impurities from commercially purchased fuels before it has a chance to negatively impact your car's engine and performance. The signs of a clogged fuel filter in a car vary depending upon the severity of the blockages and when you last had your vehicle serviced and the filters replaced. These signs vary from spluttering when driving at low speeds, a rough idle, stalling whilst driving (Very scary and dangerous), difficulty starting your Volvo or Toyota and the need to rev your engine in order to stop your car from stalling.
Rectifying the problem is a very simple and cheap fix – you just need to have the fuel filter changed at your local independent garage. You can also use additives in your fuel tank if you are unable to get to your local independent garage quickly. The best course of action though is to always maintain your service schedule. Items like filters will eventually become blocked – they have a short life span in relation to the actual vehicle and become ineffective at a certain point. Happy Safe Motoring Folks!
