your Volvo or Toyota to help reduce breakdowns and expensive car repair bills.

The blog this week is about driving tips for safe driving at night. Making sure that your Volvo or Toyota is maintained throughout the year should help
to ensure that your vehicle is safe to drive at night, but you also need to make sure that you are a safe night driver.

Driving Safely at night

One of the first things to consider is are you alert enough to make a journey at night. If you feel sleepy then you really should avoid making the journey,
until you feel more refreshed. If you start to feel sleepy during your journey, there are several things you can do. Firstly open the window for some
fresh air, make sure you are hydrated so drink some water, turn the radio up and sing along or pull over when safe to do so and take either a quick
power nap or go for a brisk walk around the car park of the service station.

When did you last check your headlights on your Volvo or Toyota? Are they aligned correctly so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers? Are the bulbs on all
your lights working correctly? When did you last check? If anything is amiss with your lights get yourself to your independent Volvo or Toyota service
garage and get them sorted out. On most modern cars you can dim the interior dashboard lights, do this if you feel the brightness is hurting your eyes
at night. Also do not look directly at the lights of on coming traffic and dazzle yourself, look down.

Be mindful of wildlife like deer when driving at night, they can come from no where especially when driving in rural locations, adjust your driving to
the surroundings you are in and slow down on unfamiliar roads.

Make sure that the windscreen and wiper blades on your Volvo or Toyota are in tip top condition, night time driving is bad enough with reduced visibility
without adding to the mix with poor vision due to a dirty windscreen, empty screen wash bottle or poor performing wiper blades. If in any doubt, please
take your Volvo or Toyota to your local independent garage to get them changed.

Never ever use your mobile phone whilst driving. If someone calls or sends a text, then pull over when safe to do so, using your phone to change your music
is also a big no no. Please be mindful of not just yourself but other road users. There was a recent story in the press of a lorry driver that was
fiddling with his phone with regards to his music and he ploughed straight into stationary traffic on the motorway in broad daylight. Do not take your
eyes off the road!

Maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle infront, and remember the new rules with regards to motorway driving and being in the correct lane,
do not hog the middle lane.
